Known locally as the 'Aeropuerto de Almeria', the airport is close to a number of notable locations, which include El Boticario, Loma Cabrera, Cortijilos and San Vincente to the north, El Alquián to the north-east, La Canada de San Urbano and Costacabana to the west, and Retamar to the south-east. Also of interest, the University of Almeria (Universidad de Almeria) lies nearby, just minutes away and located to the south-west, while the coastline and Mediterranean Sea are situated directly south of the airport.
The airport is edged on its northern side by the Carretera de Canada-Aeropuerto road, off the N-344. This joins the main terminal, car parks and pick-up / drop-off points.
